INK Ideas 1: Introduction from INK Magazine on Vimeo.
Communicating the transformative impact on Haringey through short film. Fortismere research together with comment and opinion on local and national current affairs.
We are planning to look at areas of the school and local area through the medium of 'short docs'. Using FlipCams, students will be able to make documentaries (up to 2 minutes in length) about any topic that interests them. Some first documentaries which will be arriving shortly will have been made by students who are already part of INK, but ideally, we would like to role this out to the whole school - with the focus on years 7-11.
Suggestions for possible subjects/topics would be great (perhaps the STEM group, or the animation workshops?) and again, pointing us out to students who might be interested/might benefit from involvement would be very much appreciated.

This sounds like a great idea and one that students should be able to easily contribute towards. To help get you off the ground, I would suggest that you have a couple of fixed formats like 'Picture This' you have on the website, so you allow people to work with some framework. You could continue with documentary videos such such an internal interviews with staff about their views on issues or interests.
ReplyDeleteIt would also be good to have some investigative questions that you wish to pursue. For example, you might wish to respond to Ken Robinson's views about creativity in schools with the research question: 'Do schools kill creativity?' Alternatively, choose something more specific to school life such as: 'Should Year 11 students be allowed to eat out at lunchtime?'.
You could divide your research into two types: action research, with a view to making a change in the school, and 'case study' research, where you look at something that has taken place and explore its impact.
From the perspective of the CLN, it would be very interesting if you could keep us informed of your progress and some of the ideas and developments that lead to encourage other students to be creative and contribute towards INK magazine.
Overall, it is inspiring to see you make this happen, but remember to promote this across the school - perhaps arrange some assembly presentations and I will put a notice on the school MLE Welcome Room under News. You need to make it as simple as possible to contribute so give others a process to show their interest easily.
