I left the meeting on Monday feeling very bouyed up by the prospects of both getting involved in new creative projects but also getting to work with people who I wouldn't normally get to share ideas with.
Echoing Miss Overs' sentiment I think it would be a great idea to meet up more regularly than the termly organisational meetings. Perhaps we could have two different types of meeting, steering and sharing...

People are obviously very pushed for time so one problem is finding the time to work on the projects. Is there any way we can reduce our workload but using students?
Another workload related problem is fitting in the meetings, there are a few potential ways around this;
- We could have lunchtime meetings where we all migrate to a dining hall (or even create our own collective picnic somewhere)
- Rather than all teachers being involved in all meetings, if we formed smaller breakout projects it would mean we don't all have to be in the same place at once.
I suggested to Mr H that a big part of what we're trying to do in inspire students to learn, in that vein why don't we add "Captivate" to our tagline, it's good to see he agrees!
In terms of reward, for me I'd really welcome the opportunity so share ideas with like-minded projects in other schools. If other groups are doing similar things, can they come to us and share what they're doing?
On a more specific note, I've come across a grant for up to £750, which you can apply for with ideas for a project based on one of these themes:

On a more specific note, I've come across a grant for up to £750, which you can apply for with ideas for a project based on one of these themes:
· The challenges of using digital media in science teaching
· Overcoming the barriers to collaborative digital solutions
· Creating and sharing 'elevator pitches' to encourage the use of digital media activities to overcome specific delivery issues.

The deadline for submission is 26th November so I'm a bit pushed for time, but I'd really welcome any ideas people have. In order to complete the bid I need to provide the following:
· Plan and deliver an activity of 2-3 hours duration on one of the themes above using any aspect of digital media or cloud technology (not necessarily the examples above)
· A completed template (we will send it to you if you are successful) that explains what you did and why in sufficient detail to allow others to do the same.
· A short minute piece to camera (or a podcast if you are shy) about what you are going to do and why.
· A short resource developed using any digital media to share your ideas (for example, if you use a cartoon maker, perhaps that would be a useful medium to share your ideas with others)

Thanks, Tom. Some very constructive comments. I'm not sure about the lunchtime meetings as I think it is short enough and might just feel rushed and therefore ineffectual. If we can agree an agenda with members agreeing to present on their ideas, then people are aware of the dates in advance. There will always be the possibility that staff won't be able to make it. I think that it would be good to ask members to try and 'co-op' a couple of students to the group, who would be able to come and contribute to discussions and workshops.
ReplyDeleteIf you like Tom, we could use your proposal/bid as the first case study at the next meeting followed by a skills-based workshop on getting to grips with blogging via email and sharing videos online.
ReplyDeleteTricky as the deadline for the bid is this Friday. I could try to find something else though...
